I've said this today on my blog and commented on other Catholic blogs as well. I think if fits your post here as well:

"The last few days have made it apparent that B16′s strengths were intellectual at the expense of human contact. Given what I’ve seen of Francis’s human contact approach to his ministry, human contact is much more important than intellectual pontificating, pardon the pun. The intellectual underpinnings of Catholicism are there in the magisterium. Whatever updating B16 did to it is marginal, and non-Catholics weren’t listening anyway. I like what I’ve seen Pope Francis. This contact ministry is the human contact that I’ve argued brings Christ to everyone. Through human contact is where Christ is revealed. Pope Francis is a shot in the arm!"

What a gift this man has become. God bless Pope Francis!

I don't agree - Papa Benedict excelled at walking disarmingly into people's hearts. Remember all the ghastly stuff in the media here in Britain when his visit was drawing near? Then he actually arrived, and everything changed: he walked joyfully to greet everyone on arrival at the airfield in Scotland, arms outstretched, and everyone loved him. Vast crowds thronged the streets, women held up their babies for him to kiss and bless, he communicated affection and joy, there were those unforgettable gatherings with young people, and that glorious time of prayer together in Hyde Park...

I believe that this new successor of St Peter is also going to be a wonderful Pope, and he has my love and loyalty and I'm thrilled whenever I watch him. But don't compare him to his predecessor - let him be who he is, and you will find he brings his own gifts, including intellectual ones. And Pope Benedict brought his, including wonderful human ones.

True. I loved B16 too. Perhaps I over stated my point.
