Dear Auntie: I loved and concurred with your review of The King's Speech. I saw it in Westchester County NY where the audience also applauded at the end of the film...because it was a film with intelligence, wit and faithfulness to history. The audience was filled with baby boomers like myself who are being overlooked by Hollywood as a prospective audience--until now. The NY Times mentioned this fact quite prominently this week. In America, the DVD will be available April 19. Be assured mine is on order. Colin Firth was, I agree, spectacular.

Our local cinema is old and leaves a lot to be desired, (we are waiting for a new one to be built sometime this year) so I'm waiting for the movie to be shown on pay per vu on TV as soon as it comes out in video. I listened once on the Monarcy website to King George's Christmas speech in which he quoted the famous lines: "I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year...." I've always loved that, and I've read several books about the Royal Family so I know the story well, and am really looking forward to the movie. Hopefully with its success it will show Holliwood that good films still do well, and inspire them to do better.

I was ecstatic when Spielberg announced that it won Best Motion Picture!
The last time I cared about the Oscars was in 2004 when many of us hoped that "Return of the King" would win, and did it ever!
Maybe the word "KING" has a distant connection to the quality of a movie ;)!
