HE'S HERE! And as Papa B. arrived in Scotland...

... I was rushed to the BBC this morning, in between complicated family commitments, for a discussion on the Jeremy Vine Show with an atheist profesor who said how dreadful the Pope was, how dreadful the Church was,how much harm Mother Teresa had done in Calcutta, how it was all wrong to focus on the Church's charitable work, etc etc. She had signed the letter to the Guardian protesting about the H. Father's visit, but her real quarrel seemed to be with God, His very existence, the possibility that it might all be true...

Hurried home, via local parish, where there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament all day on Thursdays. Prayed for the H. Father's visit, and also for a private matter (a young woman who is going into hospital for a major operation today: why not add your prayers to mine on this?).

Home. Domestic matters, then letters, emails, phone calls. The poor anonymous person who has sent me a Comment with filthy things about the Holy Father and the Church need not have bothered: the Comment has been deleted.

A French magazine, La Vie, arrives in the post.It has a big feature on the Papal Visit to Britain, John Henry Newmnan, etc. Has features about, among others, Fr Alexander Sherbrook of St Patrick's, Soho Square. There is also a quote from Auntie, described as "blogeuse reputee et pleine d'humour", which is kind...

Prayers, for your intentions, the Holy Father, the young woman facing surgery, and for all of our UK brothers and sisters.

May the Holy Spirit decent upon all those who have open hearst and minds to enliven them. And to soften the hearts and minds who have been hardened.

God Bless.

Joanna,

I am glad that you are enjoying the visit of Pope Benedict. I saw something briefly on the news and he seems to have been welcomed.

His meeting with the Queen seems also to have been successful - so the visit will proceed, possibly without further hiccups, i.e. Cardinal Kaspar.

I hope that the rest of the visit is peaceful. The Catholic Church needs some hope and joy.

Watching EWTN's coverage of Mass at Bellahouston.
Such tears of joys spread down my face for all of us. :)

Even amongst trials and tribulations, we are a blessed Catholic people.

I will pray for your intentions. I watched the Papal Mass at Belahouston Park this morning on EWTN. It was beautiful. I plan to watch all the coverage of the Papal Visit. I received the Collegeville Bible Commentary in the mail this morning also. You mentioned it a while back. I was looking for a good Bible commentary so thank you for the recommendation.

Dear Joanna,
I did not find an emailadress, so I write you in this way. I spoke to you on the 18th of july in Westminster cathedral after the 1200hr mass. I said that I came from Holland. You nodded with great interest but you did not speak! I told you that I sympathized with your action and your prayer. The good Lord will multiply it. I pray that the pope will have a good visit. And that your high esteemed country may be immersed in grace. I told my colleague Wim Peeters about your action. He greets you.
Yours sincerely
Steven van Weede

Dear Auntie Johanna,

Had a great day today in Scotland for the Pope - I was at Bellahouston and the place was absolutely packed. Everyone cheering like mad - not a Pope protester in sight (though I understand there were about 20 in Edinburgh, compared with the 125 000 that had come out to cheer him. Strathclyde Police Band and SuBo played and sang their socks off. Great day and 'Protest the Pope' can stick it in their pipe and smoke it..

Auntie,

I can feel your excitement clear over here in the USA!

Said a prayer for the young woman-

God Bless and may this visit from the H.Father be a meaningful event for all.

A laughable interview in which you spent 15 minutes shouting down a person with an equally (and perhaps more-so) valid point as your own. You did little to further your cause only further creating the impression of tyranny that religion has for so long imposed.

Anonymous,
Re. Joanna's "shouting match' with the atheist prof.:

If you think that the professor has as many valid points as Joanna's, then please explain how it is valid to think that Mother Teresa harmed Calcutta. Your comment is the laughable one.
