Listening...

...via the internet, to the exchange of greetings and the talks given by the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury. A good and friendly gathering, and good things said.

This is a time for rejoicing: in Westminster today, history was made.

News from Fridays, Glasgow Evening Times:Councillors in Glasgow estimate that the Pope's visit will generate around 4.2 million pounds for the city.Since one of the main complaints was the funding,I have a question. If this trend continues and God forbid this trip actually becomes profitable, can we have change please?

I watched the mass in Westminster Cathedral and was taken to shed a couple tears of joy as Papa walked to meet the youth gathered just outside it's massive doors. As he made his way down the center isle spontaneous applause (or as my mother calls it – the welling up of the Holy Spirit) broke out – and can you believe it continued for many minutes only stopping for his address to the youth and started up again upon his re-entering the cathedral. The kids outside did a great job of making him feel welcome. After Papa blessed the statue of the Virgin and Child the Bishop from Wales Edwin Regan gave a wonderful address to the delight of Papa and the joyful crowd, all of whom floated on every word - brought back to another time as he spake out his Welsh with a trilling brough that would make an Irishman quiver with jealousy. I don't know what it is was that touched to shed a few more joyful tears. I think I was just happy to hear British and Welsh voices which weren't spewing profanity against the Holy Father and Mother Teresa. The crowd was joyful and of good nature and because of that, within the context of the beatiful cathedral, hauntingly beautiful. It was a complete joy to watch the pope being energized by the kindness shown him after the mass. Heart warming. Well done you Brits!
