"If we do not act now, the consequences will be grave..."

....thus the Archbishop of New York, speaking about the Obama/religious freedom issue. Read more here.

What is happening in the USA is frightening and disgraceful. No less fearsome are the plans of our Government here in Britain to force same-sex "marriage" on the nation, with the clear possibility that churches that refuse to offer such ceremonies could be subjected to legal action.

This is a time for courage and the American bishops are showing the way.

The good news coming out today is that the adminstration is softening and it looks like they want (and politically they have to) to find an answer.

We have several swing states in play in the upcoming election that are crucial if Obama wants to be re-elected. These states tend to right of center and with many Catholics and the HHS mandate was really just a dumb, politically speaking.

This was just really stupid on every level. Even staunch liberals in the media have wondered what the heck he was thinking

I'm sorry to say that there is no "good news" happening on the part of our administration. They will stop at nothing to gain total control of our society. There is a powerful move to silence the voice of the Catholic Church in all areas of life in America. What is happening is only the tip of the iceberg of dictatorship.

Dawn, never underestimate Zero's capacity for doubling down on STUPID!

This business in England re: gay marriage is really going to bring things to a head regarding the Anglican church in particular. Because of it's status as 'the official church' the Anglicans can, by law, perform a wedding for ANYONE - of any religion. Neither of the parties even has to be Anglican. I think as a test case, should this proposal go through, could have gays especially wanting to force the Anglican's hand on this, since they are 'obliged' to act in concert with the state, as far as I can tell.
