Like millions of others...

...Auntie spent the day watching the Royal Wedding, with 3 generations of family gathered round the TV.

We loved the hymns and prayers - I was touched when a young niece spontaneously joined in the Our Father - toasted the Royal couple in champagne as they went off to sign the register, and we rose as one for the National Anthem.

The Catholic bishops of England and Wales issued a special prayer for the Royal Wedding, which I thought it would be suitable to post here:

Heavenly Father,
we ask your blessing
upon his Royal Highness, Prince William and Catherine
as they pledge their love for each other in marriage.
May your love unite them through their lives.
Grant them the strength to serve you, our country and the Commonwealth
with integrity and faithfulness.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

I watched it too. I found the actual wedding very touching and beautiful and I wish them nothing but the best. I also think the prayer by the bishops that you posted was perfect.

The rest of the surrounding media hype Im glad I was able to fast forward thru, however.

I'm just watching some clips from the wedding now. Wonderful that Catholic bishops could add a prayer. It all looked so beautiful.

Dear Auntie Joanna: Here in NY, television coverage of The Royal Wedding began at 4 a.m., and interest was INTENSE. Neighbors and friends commented throughout the day on the lovely ceremony, hymns and prayers; the beautiful bride who radiated elegance not seen since the wedding of Grace Kelly; the dashing groom who is admired here for serving his country as a search and rescue helicopter pilot;and the magnificent flowers, carriages, horses, bands, uniforms, trumpets, etc. Everyone says: "No one does these occasions like the British."

We taped the wedding and watched it all yesterday. My husband and I both thought that the service at Westminster Abbey was a beautiful witness to the real meaning of marriage. It's good to see the Royal Family at a happy time after all the troubles they've gone through.

How blessed you are to live in such a wonderful country! This event brought out the best that Britain has to offer.
I was especially impressed with the Anglican service, especially the use of Old English. The content of the prayers and homily was surprisingly Catholic in some sections especially in its description of marriage and its origin from God.
God bless the royal couple may they have a blessed marriage!
