I have been reading...

...the Holy Father's new Encyclical about Love and Truth.

Love is God's greatest gift to humanity, it is his promise and our hope.

This theme of love is so important and fundamental that everyone is ignoring it.

Isn't it ridiculous (and rather horrible) that when the Pope makes a short aside stating - with obvious truth - that giving out condoms isn't helping to solve the AIDS horror but rather making it worse , the Western media erupted in a frenzy of screaming headlines and radio phone-ins and denunciations from groups and organisations and governments...and when he speaks out about the great issue of hunger and justice and the plight of the world's poor, very little notice is taken?

No phone calls from Jon Snow imploring me to take part in a TV debate. And not, alas, much interest in the Catholic blogosphere. Now, if he'd talked about birettas...

Joanna,

I agree with your overall point, but I think the dearth of coverage in the blogosphere is due to folks wanting to spend sufficient time absorbing it.

The papal pronouncement on condoms can be summed up in a single headline. The social and economic teachings can't be. That's the difference.

Maybe the Summer holidays has something to do with it?

Re: the Blogosphere. I haven't blogged about it yet, but I am very interested. I'll wait until I have finished reading it and have absorbed it somewhat before blogging on it.

Unlike sensational and anti-Pope/anti-Church sentiments from the MSM, most bloggers would like to do the encyclical justice, I think.

Also, the MSM hate the Church, so we expect big fat 0 from them. (Very occasionally, we are pleasantly surprised).

Oh also, related to the above, the MSM is obsessed with sex and therefore only ever picks up what the Pope says if it relates in any way to sex. Hence, the Church is said to be sex mad. blah blah blah
