...because if you are, might you consider buying my new Yearbook of Seasons and Celebrations for your mother, godmother, auntie, sister, wife, or best friend? Look it up on the Gracewing or Family Publications websites.
Honestly, it's a much nicer and more interesting present than bath salts or a calendar with cats on it...

That's a grerat idea!
Never one to hide your light under a bushel, Joanna dear! Where's your modesty?
Put your plugs in HTML form down the side of your blog.
Lot more chance of people buying one of your books if they need only click a picture which links them directly to a site.
Plus forgive me if I sound rude, but how about including a little newspaper article archive in here ? You've written so much over the years and it's now become wrapping for fish & chips - it shouldn't be lost, and really should be made available to a lot more people ?
p.s. I totally sympathise with the struggle of your journalistic endeavours - the catholic herald asked me to do one of their notebooks and I failed abysmally at the first hurdle. You've earned my admirable respect - I honestly thought I was a writer until confronted with the snowblinding blank screen - and I was sunk !
I was under the impression that Family Publications had closed down - or is that St. Austin Press.
Aw, lay off Joanna, anon. If you're going to take a potshot, at least don't be "anon." -- it makes you look like a jealous wussy!
[And I second Paul - a click box on the side could help you and your readers out.]

I worked in sales briefly. You do have to overcome your natural reserve, and initiate a conversation with the potential customer. It would be nice if products just sold themselves, but that's not the case. Even grocery stores spend millions on marketing.
The book of feasts and seasons is a good present idea. It's always hard to know what to buy for people. It's about the right price range for most people, not too controversial or too preachy, nor too slushy.
